Twitter MemberCount - are you in?

For more than 5 weeks now (that I recall) the same Twitter message has been displayed.

"We're working to restore IM services to all users. Thanks for your patience!"

If Twitter actually did have more than one million users, I might cut them some slack as that would indeed be a considerably large task.

But I don't think that Twitter has anywhere near one million members. Actually, I think that they have around 50,000.

Would you like to know how many members there are too?

Would you cut them some slack (more than you already have) if they were, in fact, a very large online messaging service? I just might.

So, today I created a new Twitter account, MemberCount is the name. You can see the page here, and if you haven't already, go ahead and follow the account.

Also, if you haven't already done so, please retweet my request for people to follow - there's no reason why we cannot find out how many members there actually are.

If you are like me, you've made the assumption that there are several hundred thousand members, but let's find out for sure.

Thanks Chetan - yesterday was an interesting day because of this.

I saw some people who didn’t “trust” the intent of @MemberCount, and others who seem to get rather miffed that I had the “gall” to try and find out how many actual members there are.

    Thanks for spreading the news!
