10 Ways to Fake Transparency

posted by mbailey

Hey there - thanks for checking this out - you are on your way to making it to the top, so why not take a bunch of short-cuts and get there quicker!?

Face the facts

Maintaining a Social Network takes a lot of time.

Transparency is one of the key methods to ensure that your efforts are noticed and well received.

Who has time for that?

Here are 10 ways that you can automate the process.

  1. Use Twitter (you should already be doing this) and hook up an automated follow-bot which will send a (Direct Message (DM) to new followers.
  2. Publish goals as if you think positive all the time.
  3. Obscure your message with shiny distractions. “Win an iPod”, etc.
  4. Distribute skewed facts which people will accept on face value alone. Spin, spin, spin.
  5. Write a book or a blog as if you are the expert, and never interact with your readers.
  6. Act as if everything you are saying is already common knowledge.
  7. Take advantage of and exploit the insecurities of others.
  8. Create the illusion of a problem then step in and fix it publicly.
  9. Praise everyone who agrees with you and ignore or block those who don’t.
  10. Ask for help or solicit ideas as if the customer is part of the process, but of course, you can never implement those good suggestions. Just keep doing things your way.

By the way, if you are going to attempt circumvention of being human, with all the positive and negative that it entails or you are always pushing a message, or constantly talking about your product/service - please feel free to never contact me.

Motrin backlash gives me a headache

posted by mbailey

If you somehow missed it, people are upset with a new advertisement from Motrin.

Seems there’s a large group of overly sensitive people out there.

Here’s the video from YouTube and below is the text of what is said in the advertisement.

It’s a woman talking, as if she’s thinking outloud and I don’t see anything wrong with it at all.

The rants going around all seem to be centered around the “baby carrying” portion of it, as if Motrin is somehow saying that they are stupid for doing it, or that they only do it to be “in fashion” (most of them admit that it IS a fashion statement).

Anyhow, I just wanted to take the effort to “put it out there” that I liked the ad, it got people talking (it’s Ibuprofin, how else would that be exciting?)

Wearing your baby seems to be in fashion.
I mean, in theory it’s a great idea.
There’s the front baby carrier, the sling, the shwing, the wrap, the pouch and who knows what else they’ve come up with
Wear the baby on your side, your front, go hands free.
Supposedly it’s a real bonding experience.
They say that babies carried close to the bod tend to cry less than others.
But, what about me?
Do moms that wear their babies cry more than those who don’t?
I sure do.
These things put a ton of strain on your back, your neck, your shoulders.
Did I mention your back?
I mean, I’ll put up with the pain, because it’s a good kind of pain.
It’s for my kid.
Plus, it totally makes me look like an official mom.
And so, if I look tired and crazy, people will understand why.

MOTRIN, we feel your pain.

Five VITAL elements for Conversation

posted by mbailey

As I continue to work on brining MobaTalk Beta online and getting it into your hands, my desk has become riddles with a lot of notes and diagrams because my whiteboard has already been filled up.

One of the items which I’ve scribbled on the whiteboard is listed under a heading of “Conversation Studio”

  • Video
  • Images
  • Text
  • Audio
  • Links

I’ve glanced at it more than a few times and then I finally saw it - VITAL

Those are the 5 things which we all use in some form or another in our online conversations, which are really not much different than real world conversations, except that most of them are not done in real time.

So, as MobaTalk Beta comes closer to launch, the 15 second pitch is this:

MobaTalk is an online Conversation Studio. It combines the five elements which are vital for online communications. Video, Images, Text, Audio, and Links.

The next 10 days will be a marathon race for me as I continue coding the site. I am anticipating the beta launch to take place as I demo the service on October 29th, 2008 at the Highlight Midwest event.

MobaTalk reviewed on Mashable.com

posted by mbailey

Thanks to Doriano “Paisano” Carta for his nice review of MobaTalk.com

I guess that I was incorrectly referred to as “Michael Perry” in the video.
While that is a cool name, I’ll stick with my own, Michael Bailey ;^)

I think that they did a great job putting together the screencast.
